OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The Brown University Chapter of the AAUP represents faculty across all disciplines. We are committed to realizing the mission of the AAUP on our campus: "to advance academic freedom and shared governance; to define. A fundamental professional values and standards for higher education; to promote the economic security of faculty, academic professionals, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and all those engaged in teaching and research in higher education; to help the higher education community organize to make our goals a reality; and to ensure higher education's contribution to the common good."

As an independent organization, we are in a unique position to complement existing University channels, such as the Faculty Executive Committee, in advocating for the interests and well-being of the Brown faculty. By organizing collectively, we aim to ensure that the voice of the faculty is heard in the governance of our institution; that violations of academic freedom are redressed; and that all members of our community, including visiting and non-tenure track colleagues, are respected, valued, and fairly compensated for their contributions to our University. We urge Brown faculty from all ranks of the University, including lecturers and faculty holding visiting positions, to join us. We are already advocating for you.
